Good fish & chips are rare in the Midlands, and as someone who spent a few years living in Yorkshire, the land of proper fish & chips, I do my best to seek out the good stuff elsewhere to fend off pangs of longing for the place.
Georges is just that; an oasis of quality fish and chips in a morass of Midlands mediocrity. They pride themselves on sourcing fresh fish and decent potatoes, and seem to thrive on providing something so much better than the average chip shop that it's barely recognisable as the same thing.
The restaurant is cramped and a little tacky, and it closes at 9pm. Best to opt for take-out, which is where fish and chips really belong anyway. Its just-off-the-main-road location and easy parking mean it is easy (too easy for those of us trying to save money/lose weight!) to drop in and pick up a couple of portions on the way home. Try it, and save yourself from average chip shop fare!
